How much responsibility should a product bear for user behavior?
While designing products at LUUP, we’ve repeatedly grappled with this question.
Adding more prohibitions or warnings doesn’t make people act as intended.
At LUUP, we avoid lumping user actions together. Instead, we break down users into states of “unaware,” “unable,” “unwilling,” or “unable to use” by examining “why it’s happening,” and take different approaches for each.
In this session, I’d like to share the interim conclusions LUUP has reached regarding this question.
