The Designer’s Ideal and “Reality”

Day 2

14:20 – 14:40

Brick Stage

Talk + AMA

Japanese

In today’s world, especially in Japan, are designers truly able to pursue their “ideal design work”?

Designers themselves have studied ideals for society and people, enhancing their design literacy. But have they left behind the clients they work with, colleagues from other professions, and various stakeholders?

Design rarely stands alone. That’s precisely why it’s crucial to engage with professionals from other fields like business and technology, to understand each other, and to “pass the baton.”

While discussing grand designs for improving society, I want to start by examining the everyday, small-scale realities of communication and alignment within our daily work—to explore the gap between designers’ ideals and reality.
