Why does note remain simple?

Our service note is often described as “simple,” and even now—after surpassing 10.5 million users—it continues to maintain that impression.
At the same time, behind the scenes, features and systems have steadily increased year by year, making product decisions ever more complex.

At the core of note is a commitment to the idea that “anyone can start creating and keep going.”
The more seriously this goal is pursued, the stronger the temptation becomes to add more features. However, the product is not meant to resemble a government office overflowing with explanations and choices.
With the belief that note should be the ideal “city” for engaging in creative work—and with a refusal to compromise on the best possible design to support that vision—the product has continued to evolve.

What should be included, what should be restrained, and what should be let go? As the product inevitably grows, what guiding principles should remain unchanged?
As a place where many people continue to gather and create, simplicity has been protected not as a result, but as a deliberate “choice.” This is a story of the many decisions that have accumulated behind that commitment.
